UI/UX Designer - CoLabs
At Media Suite, we have a wide range of clients, but we specialise in meaningful public sector work which will enable communities (and government) to adapt in a fast-changing world. Media Suite's CoLabs team is currently delivering on a number of high value, high intensity engagements in the environmentally focused public sector. The CoLabs team shows up with serious passion for their work and the flexibility to tackle any challenge. We offers a wide range of services focused around complex problem solving, strategic delivery and the interplay between human adaptation and technology. This role requires an experienced, strategically minded User Experience and User Interface Designer to guide our partners through a complex and intensive user engagement process that focuses on the public sector and rural community. While software and digital solutions are not a product of our current projects, the ability to prototype and ‘think for digital’ is essential.
You should be comfortable getting your head into complexity, with the ability to step back and think big picture, real world impact, real users. You must be comfortable in a client-facing environment as the CoLabs team works hand-in-hand with our partners and their teams to deliver. You must be comfortable with context switching, deadlines and a feedback culture that thrives on the success of the collective.
Whatever your background, you will definitely need:
A sound practical and working knowledge of UI, UX best practices, ideally at scale
Experience working with a wide range of people (eg. from business stakeholders to end users from all walks of life) to deeply understand requirements;
A passion for solving complex problems with simplicity at the heart of your thinking;
An eye for design with strong attention to detail;
Impeccable written and spoken english;
Comfortable with technology, using it, supporting it and learning new things;
Curious and inherently motivated by review, feedback and improvement;
Able to work both independently and collaboratively;
Willing to go the extra mile to make our partners & stakeholders happy;
Flexible and highly adaptable to ever changing priorities;
Able to pick up new things quickly and take ownership.
Some of the practical day-to-day things you can expect to be doing:
Conducting user research, interviews, surveys and usability testing;
Creation of User Personas and Scenarios to help inform design decisions;
User Interface design and development including creation of wireframes and user-flows;
Communicating with clients to understand their goals and objectives;
Creating prototypes to validate approaches with users;
Contributing your skills and perspective to a highly collaborative team across a diverse range of subjects and applications.
Updating and reporting on sales pipelines and key activities
Skills, Experience & Education:
Ideally, we need someone ready to hit the ground running, so you will need proven hands-on experience with User Experience (user testing, test planning, creation of guidance material) and ideally proven experience with UI design for web-based software interfaces. We expect you’d need industry experience of at least 3 years in a similar environment.
Proficiency with tools like Sketch, UXPin, Figma, inVision, Adobe XD etc would be an advantage.
Experience creating UX artefacts like wireframes, personas, user journey maps, scenarios is definitely required.

Ideally, this role will be based in our Christchurch office, so being based in New Zealand with the right to work here is key. While we are keen to employ a full-time role, we also understand that full-time work does not fit into everyone's lives. With this in mind, we will work closely with the right person to balance the work/life hustle.
